Skeleton

Skeleton is a winter sport in which the athlete slides down the ice track on a sled while lying down in a prone position. The origins of skeleton date back to the 1880s in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The weight of the athlete is limited to 115 kg, while the sled must not exceed 43 kilograms. For ladies, these figures are 92 and 29 kilograms, respectively.
At first glance, a skeleton race may resemble the sport of luge, however they hardly have anything in common. Not without reason, skeleton is governed by the bobsleigh federation. There is a mistaken belief that skeleton is more dangerous than luge. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Dangerous falls occur far more frequently in luge than in skeleton.
