On 17 September 2009, a new artificial ice starting ramp was inaugurated at the Sigulda bobsleigh and luge track, which will allow the luge, bobsleigh and skeleton athletes to better prepare for competitions and increase the interest of foreign athletes about training opportunities at the Sigulda bobsleigh and luge track.
There are fewer than 10 artificial ice starting ramps in the world. The Sigulda ramp is one of the most modern and advanced in the world.
Construction of the artificial ice starting ramp took place from March until August 2009 and was carried out by JSC Siguldas Būvmeistars.
